On Saturday, at the ClujLife Community Conference, the Mobility Pact received a special award for the initiatives developed to improve urban mobility in Cluj. The special prize offered by Clever and ClujLife recognizes all the efforts of the coordinators and collaborators involved in our project – Urban Innovation Division.
Urban mobility in Cluj represents a concern assumed through Urban Innovation Division. This project aims to reduce the time spent by citizens of Cluj in traffic and to make the commute more efficient, safe and pleasant for each citizen of Cluj and also for the environment. In this respect, Cluj Cultural Centre and people of Cluj developed a series of temporary projects in different areas of the city in order to shape future actions and to improve urban mobility.
Initiatives for improving urban mobility in Cluj developed by the Cluj Cultural Centre:
- Verde pe Canalul Morii. The team of the project made a research to emphasize the priorities and ideas of the neighbors regarding how would they like to use a specific area in Marasti neighborhood. As a result of this research and based on the ideas provided by the students of Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, two interventions were temporarily built: a more accessible bridge than the existing one, allowing citizens to pass to Farmec Park with strollers, bicycles, skateboards and a special area for kids with tables, benches and flowers. The team included all the results of this experiment in a report for the City Hall of Cluj-Napoca.
- Pârâul nostru de la ”La Terenuri”. The team of the project made a research to emphasize the habits and ideas of the neighbors regarding how would they like to use the areas of Manastur neighborhood. As a result of the research and based on the ideas provided by the students of Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, two main interventions were built: a wooden bridge with access stairs over the river, as well as a place for socializing nearby the children\’s playgrounds. The report resulting from this project had an important role in both consultation and evaluation processes of the offers received at the public auctions concerning the development of sport facilities in outdoor area ”La Terenuri”.
- Street Food on Molnar Piuariu. On Molnar Piuariu street the car access was banned and Street Food Festival was organized on this street. Our partners from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism made a questionnaire that was applied to passers-by during the event. Thus, the neighbors expressed their personal opinions, and their main preferences included pedestrian walkway and leisure places. The results of this temporary intervention were then integrated into the special documentation for the street design developed by the City Hall of Cluj-Napoca.
- Pactul de Mobilitate, a study that aims to find out how current traffic conditions influence our decision for public transport. Through this study we intended to understand the causes for current traffic congestion and to find out what future actions could be undertaken by local government, companies and universities. The results of the report were presented last year at the Urban Dialogues Conference, when the mayor of Cluj, Emil Boc, announced that the first Urban Innovation Division from Eastern Europe will be developed in the city of Cluj.
