A First for Romania: The Launch of the Centre for Culture, Health and Social Well-Being in Cluj-Napoca

The Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences (FSPAC) at Babeș-Bolyai University, in partnership with the Cluj Cultural Centre (CCC), is proud to announce the official launch of the Centre for Culture, Health and Social Well-Being Romania. The inauguration event, held on Friday, January 30, 2026, brought together prominent figures from academia, the cultural sector, the business community, and public administration.

Conceived as an interdisciplinary think-tank ecosystem, this new research center is the first initiative in the country to bridge expertise from the fields of culture, health, and public administration. The center’s mission is to integrate the concept of “cultural well-being” into Romanian public policy, championing the idea that arts and culture are vital resources for individual health, community resilience, and the overall quality of life in our cities.

Călin Hințea, Dean of FSPAC, emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership:

“By establishing this center, we aim to transform how public administration and academia approach quality of life. We can no longer afford to view health and culture as isolated sectors. This center will generate the data, policy models, and innovative solutions needed to shift from a reactive approach to a generative one, where interdisciplinary collaboration becomes the primary engine for social well-being.”

The launch event featured a session dedicated to the center’s strategic vision, followed by a roundtable discussion titled “Communities, Culture, Health, and Social Well-Being: Challenges and Potential Solutions,” moderated by Călin Hințea and Ștefan Teișanu.

Rarița Zbranca, Program Director at the Cluj Cultural Centre, added:

“Culture has a proven power to improve health outcomes and strengthen social cohesion. This new center, developed alongside FSPAC, provides a space where cultural practice meets scientific rigor and administrative vision. Our goal is to facilitate an ongoing dialogue between artists, health professionals, and policymakers to build a future where access to culture is recognized as an essential factor for a healthy, balanced life.”

By collaborating with prestigious institutions both in Romania and abroad, the Centre for Culture, Health and Social Well-Being aims to become a regional hub of expertise, reimagining the paradigm of well-being in an ever-evolving society.
