Between July 7 and August 3, Cluj residents have the opportunity to discover a world built at the intersection between scientific knowledge and artistic expression in the Colliding Epistemes exhibition, organized by the Cluj Cultural Centre and hosted by Transit House. The opening takes place on Thursday, July 7, at 7:00 PM EET, and will be preceded by a guided tour organized starting at 6:00 PM EET in the presence of curators Maja and Reuben Fowkes, along with some of the artists and researchers who contributed to the exhibition.
Colliding Epistemes: Art & Science Exhibition is the culmination of thirteen art-science collaborative residencies organized within the framework of \”Studiotopia: Art meets Science in the Anthropocene\”, a project financed through the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. The exhibition explores the ways in which art can reshape scientific expertise by proposing new, unconventional approaches to the challenges facing our planet today.
\”When we started the Studiotopia project together with the other partner organizations, we began with an invitation addressed to artists and specialists from different scientific fields to work together, to exchange ideas and to challenge the relationship between art and science, between different environments or types of knowledge specific to the two fields. What we invite you to see now is the result of these meetings, a hybrid result that, under the care of curators Maja and Reuben Fowkes, coalesces around several thematic directions that we hope will provoke the curiosity of the public in Cluj\”, says Corina Bucea, Project Director at the Cluj Cultural Centre.

The shifting sands of artistic and scientific concern in the Anthropocene are illuminated in the exhibition through the thematic clusters of “Speculative Ecologies”, a segment that shines a new light on the traditional knowledge of folk cultures, “Earthly Sensorium”, which challenges societal indifference towards fellow species, and “Hacking Technocracy”, a cluster through which disinformation, hierarchies, and the technocratic mindset are being confronted.
Before arriving in Cluj, the exhibition was presented in Brussels, at the BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts, and in Gdańsk, at the Laznia Centre for Contemporary Art.
Cluj residents will be able to visit the Colliding Epistemes exhibition from Tuesday to Saturday, between 4:00-8:00 PM EET. Also, on Friday, July 8, 1:00 PM EET, visitors are invited to participate in an open discussion with the artists and curators of the exhibition. Admission to the exhibition, as well as to the events organized around it, is free of charge.
