From October 1st to November 7th, the Work Upside Down exhibition offers you a journey through fragments of the future of work.
Part of the Cluj Future of Work project, financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Urban Innovative Actions initiative, and by Cluj-Napoca City Hall, Work Upside Down brings together 13 works of art presented in the form of immersive installations, performances or contextual narratives that facilitate communication, awareness and reflection on how work could change in the future. The opening will take place on October 1, 18:00 hr, at the Municipal House of Culture in Piata Unirii 24.
The field of work is an effervescent and diverse one, transforming itself as the surrounding reality acquires new tools and operation mechanisms. Technological development, digitalization, the introduction of Artificial Intelligence in our work environment are just a few examples that mark this transformation. Starting from this, Work Upside Down is an exploration of several imagined but plausible futures, of the forms that work rituals and workspaces could take in the years to come.
Organized at the initiative of the Cluj Cultural Centre and curated by members of the Time\’s Up artistic collective, together with Corina Bucea and Rarița Zbranca, the Work Upside Down exhibition becomes a kaleidoscope of the future of work, as viewed by 13 artists and artist groups from Romania, Austria and the Netherlands: Blajin, Good Texts in Crazy Places Company, MIN(D)ING Company, Cristina Vasilescu in collaboration with Quote — Unquote and Bob Bicknell-Knight, Ioana Păun & Flavia Giurgiu, Kali / Mihaela Dragan , Larisa Crunțeanu, LARP Timișoara, Mihai Păcurar, Orsolya Gál, Polina Kanis, Raluca Paraschiv, Time\’s Up.
Diversity is the central element of the exhibition, as the 13 projects approach the future in a particular and subjective way. Thus, the participants will be able to find out what it means to apply for a job interview in 2077, to take a look at the 2049 landscape, to walk among the artifacts of the coming years and to discover aspects that we could run into over a few decades. This will be possible by interacting with the exhibited installations as well as participating in concerts, shows and interactive games that offer an immersive experience of the future of work, at the end of which the public will have the opportunity to form their own perspective on how work could change in the coming years.
Free public access to all the exhibition events is carried out according to Coronavirus safety rules. The exhibition can be visited between October 2 and November 7, from Tuesday to Sunday, between 16:00 and 20:00. A special events program is also available on the official website: wud.diviziadeinovare.ro.
