Crafting Futures Romania is a program of the British Council Romania designed to support the future of craftsmen and handicraft activity around the world through research and education, being launched this year for the first time in Europe, in Romania. The call for registration to the project is addressed both to craftsmen, and to mediators, designers, curators and gallery owners in the UK.
The program intends to change the perspectives and the perceived value of handicrafts by encouraging the UK-RO collaboration, and the focus will be on collaborative learning experiences that will take place in Romania and will explore the use of traditional values to innovate a sustainable future.
Within this project Cluj Cultural Centre will curate a short visiting schedule in and around the city of Cluj-Napoca, trying to establish connections between the participants in the program and the Romanian traditional or modern craftsmen. In addition to the project component managed in Cluj, a visit will be organized at the Romanian Design Week, facilitated by The Institute in Bucharest.
Since it is rich in handicraft heritage and tradition, and benefits from a new local wave of craftsmen who show a high potential of development in order to integrate the handicraft activity in the modern and sustainable design, the Romanian cultural landscape was chosen for the pilot program starting this year also in Europe.
