Unfinished Conversations on the Weight of Absence, the exhibition marking Romania\’s participation at the Venice Biennial, opened on 9 May 2019 at the Pavilion of Romania and on May 10, 2019, at the New Gallery of the Romanian Cultural Institute and Humanistic Research in Venice. From the Cluj Cultural Center, partner of the project, Corina Bucea, and Horea Avram participated as project managers within the organization.
The exhibition, curated by Cristian Nae, with Attila Kim as the main commissioner, presents the works of the Romanian artists Belu-Simion Făinaru, Dan Mihălţianu and Miklós Onucsán and can be visited between 11 May and 24 November 2019.
The exhibition in the Pavilion of Romania presents previous versions of some works, adapted to the scale, the significance and architectural specificity of the spaces in which they are presented, either building a different meaning, or changing their configuration and formal structure, and thus becoming new and contemporary works of art. All these installations have an extension displayed at the New Gallery of the Romanian Institute of Culture and Humanistic Research in Venice.
The Cluj Cultural Center supports the mediation program for Romania\’s participation in this year\’s edition, preparing the custodian team that will serve as guidance and mediation for the diverse audience visiting the Biennial for almost seven months. The last edition of the event was visited by over 600,000 people.
The Cultural Center of Cluj, through the organizational model and the content it develops, aims to have a strategic role at European level in the field of contemporary art and culture. The Center implements a broad agenda that addresses themes such as cultural and artistic education, contemporary art, increasing the capacity of the cultural sector.
Romania\’s participation at the 58th International Art Exhibition – The Biennale di Venezia is organized by the Ministry of Culture and National Identity, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Romanian Cultural Institute. \”Unfinished conversations on the importance of absence\” is a project produced by the Foundation and the Plan B Gallery, together with their partners.
